Portraits in Courage
Introduction
The Portraits in Courage kit uses primary source documents, archival images, and oral testimony excerpts to explore the experiences and fates of four individuals during the Holocaust. You'll discover their unique stories and the connections between each of these four individuals. Please review the Teachers' Guide, introductory PowerPoint and other resource material in the Materials folder located above, for complete instructions on working with this program.
Envelope 1
Vera Schiff
Vera Schiff (née Katz) was born in Prague,Czechoslovakia in 1926.
She and her family were deported to Theresienstadt in 1942.

Eva Katz
Eva was two years older than Vera and the two sisters were close. They took part in many activities together and had a happy, carefree childhood.

Fredy Hirsch
Fredy was German-Jewish athlete, sports instructor, and youth group leader. When Hitler came to power in Germany, Fredy fled to Prague where he continued to work with young people.
Envelope 4
Rabbi Friediger
Rabbi Max Friediger was one of approximately 500 Danish Jews who were deported to Theresienstadt in 1943.
